THREAT TO FUTURE OF DISPENSING FROM BOROUGH GREEN SURGERY
As you may have heard in the national daily press there has been a Government white paper proposing to make some changes to the regulation of Pharmacies and Dispensaries which may if implemented mean that we are no longer able to dispense medications at Borough Green Surgery for our patients who at present are in receipt of such services because they live more than a mile from the nearest pharmacy.
This affects all patients we currently dispense to. The current situation is that there is a consultation period going on at the moment and we would request that all of our patients that can do so, lobby your MP’s and request that they preserve the current regulations as they stand at the present because this means that your Practice patient dispensing will continue and you will also continue to have the choice of using the Pharmacy in the High Street in Borough Green.
The Government makes a great deal of play about patient choice in it’s communications about the NHS but this proposal if fully implemented would mean the patients in Borough Green would have no choice but to get their medications either from Lloyds in the High Street or to travel to further towns such as Sevenoaks or West Malling for their medications.
As a Practice we are making representations to the powers that be because we feel there is a risk of a reduced Practice income from the Dispensary affecting our ability to provide other services. However the Government may see this as protecting our invested interests and it would be very beneficial to have representations from the patients who may be affected by the loss of this service rather than just from the doctors whose organisation and therefore income is directly affected.
If you feel this service has benefits for you we would urge you to write to your MP stressing your desire for the current system to continue, and explaining the reasons why dispensing from the doctors surgery is so important to you.
